The Blue Morpho
Butterfly represents
peace and love. Luis
tells the legend of
a young woman who
fell in love with
the son of the tribal
chief. She was unable
to marry him, however,
because she was not
from a family of
sufficient social
standing. As a result
she went up into the
mountains with her
sister and found a
large stone where
she declared she
would stay. Her
sister went back to
the village and
when she returned to
the stone a large
blue butterfly sat in
the place her sister
had occupied. When the
sister told her father
this he responded that
his daughter had found
peace and love in that
place and was thus
transformed into a
butterfly.
