Hang on Peluchi, Peluchi Hang On…..

Yes, we released Peluchi, the orphaned Two-toed Sloth baby last Thursday the 14th of May 2009. This was very difficult because we came to feel as though he were a little baby that we were caring for. This blog is a photo log with very few words. No words can describe the love that we felt for this little guy. We also have a movie that I will edit and post on YouTube for all of you to see.

Daniel and Peluchi at entrance to the forest.

His last ride upon his beloved “fuzzy”, the surrogate mother. Everyday, when we had to put him back into his enclosure after his exercise time he would watch the trees above him as they went by, like he is doing in this photo. It was a heartbreaker to keep him closed up when we could see how much he wanted to get up into those trees. It was also a great lesson in patience because we needed to wait until we KNEW he was strong and agile enough to be out there on his own.

Dan, Omar and Peluchi taking off.

We built a little platform for him so that we could place his “fuzzy” on there and some leaves and flowers, in case he needed some help or security. There he goes climbing up that vine.

Up he goes…….

Hanging out.

Goodbye Peluchi!!

He went up to the end of a branch and hung there looking at everyone until they all left to come home. It even looks like he is waving goodbye in this picture.

We have gone down several times since freeing him to check on him. We call his name and look in all of the trees. We check to see if he has come to his little platform, but he has not and he is off in the large patch of secondary forest where we left him. He is living the life of the wild forest animals, “PURA VIDA”. Have a great life, Peluchi, and thank you for letting us be a part of it. We will be down here on the Earth, working for you and your kind, so come on everybody…….

LET’S GET PLANTING!!

Buena Suerte

Holding his skinny body was a real experience. You could connect with his brain and read his tiny mind.
